We mentioned Robert and Emily’s pirate themed St. Augustine wedding on the blog a couple weeks ago when we discussed Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding. If you missed it, be sure to check it out.
Robert & Emily were such a fun couple to work with. I only met them once before the wedding day, but they were so organized and knew exactly what they wanted, that we were able to accomplish a LOT during those few short hours we were together.
It’s not everyday that you get to sit back and enjoy a wedding ceremony as a wedding planner, but their ceremony on the Black Raven Pirate Ship allowed me to do just that. An hour and a half out on the beautiful water looking in at the bay front in Downtown St. Augustine, with pirates, music and plenty of rum for all was the perfect way to kick off their wedding festivities. Once the ceremony was over, and guests debarked the ship, they made their way over to the St. Francis Barracks for the reception.
The rich history that the St. Francis Barracks holds for the St. Augustine area added an extra special element, and was the perfect backdrop for dinner and dancing. Fun fact: Robert, the groom, is an animator for the Walt Disney Company. Because of their love for the parks and all things Disney, it’s no surprise that the inspiration for their reception decor was drawn from the Pirates of the Caribbean restaurant at Disneyland in California.
With gorgeous cafe lighting provided by St. Johns Illuminations, red, blue and green up lighting provided by Party Solution Entertainment, and glass bottle and wooden lantern centerpieces provided by SPR Events, their vision truly came to life. The space was filled with laughter, tales of the sea and memories made over their “lady red” specialty drink. There were even pirates in attendance.
This was certainly a wedding I won’t soon forget.
